Joaquin Miller sits at the crossroads of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day. Although he is best known by the poem, “Columbus,” he is second-best known for being the American author who really began to break down toxic narratives about native people, and write about the damage of colonization to the environment. Even more so, he held Oakland’s most famous salons, hosting meaningful conversations and artistic expression between other writers for justice on his parkland.

In the spirit of Joaquin Miller’s famous arts gatherings in “The Hights,” this uniquely Oakland celebration features a community potluck and a “Lojinks Festival” celebrating California Writers then and now. Share the link: https://tinyurl.com/HightsFest
